Piling on the pounds

A lovely soft toy arrived in the post today, from Grandma's friends Bob and Marlene. Thank you very much!

I went to Kendal Young Babies with Mummy in the afternoon, and there were 6 other babies there, including Luke. Thankfully, there were no girls.

We had a session on minor ailments, and I was re-weighed. I'm 10lbs and Mummy seemed pleased with that.

It's been wet outside all day.

Good mood

I've been in a good mood all day today. I've done lots of smiles and a bit of giggling. All in all, a fun, lazy day at home.

Busy Mummy

Have kept Mummy on her toes pretty much all day with one thing or another.

She's very patient with me.

People's Sunday

Not much to report today. Watched Tim Henman playing at Wimbledon on the telly, and got quite animated by that.

Kirkby Lonsdale

We went on a little outing today. First we visited the showroom for the company that has pre-wired our house to have a look at all the things they could offer. I slept all the way through that and then we headed for Kirkby Lonsdale and did a spot of shopping.

Once home, I got down with James Brown and Will Young on TV.

Quite a relaxing day, really.

Fed by Daddy

Daddy fed me for the first time this evening, from a bottle.

I gulped a load down but refused to have any more once I realised it wasn't the real thing, and opted for Mummy's breast in preference.

Do they think I'm stupid?

Portugal vs. England

I went to baby massage with Mummy this morning in order to de-stress before today's big game. I met lots of other (bigger) babies there. I was the youngest by some way.

Freddie and Eliza visited with their Mummy in the afternoon, and I chilled out for most of the day before Daddy came home to watch the match with me. I was so relaxed still from baby massage that I slept through most of the first half.

At the end of full time, it was 2-2 and England lost 6-5 on penalties. Portugal go through to the semi-finals. England are on their way home. What a sad, sad day.

Videos:
Relaxing throughout the first half (2.2MB) - not moving a muscle.
Hargreaves' penalty to make it 4-4 (1.0MB) - a little animated by this.
Ricardo's penalty knocks England out (1.1MB) - as you can see, I wasn't a happy bunny at this point!

Germany out

Not slept much today. I was pretty excited watching Germany get knocked out of Euro 2004 tonight. They lost 2-1 to the Czech Republic.

Tarn Hows

I was bathed three times by Mummy this morning. I quite enjoy baths now and let out the occasional giggle.

Mummy and Daddy took me for my 6-week check with Dr. MacKenzie this morning (even though I'm currently only 5½ weeks old). He said I was a good, strong boy and everything seems OK.

In the afternoon, Mummy and I met up with Grandma and Uncle Paddy, and we went for a walk with my pram around Tarn Hows.

It's a good job I slept through the experience because Mummy is still a beginner when it comes to pushing the pram.

I've been a little tetchy since returning home.

Croatia vs. England

What a day it is today! It's Uncle Mark's birthday, England are bidding for a place in the quarter finals of Euro 2004, and it's the longest day of the year.

I was looked after by Grandma and Uncle Paddy this morning because Mummy needed a haircut. I kept them very busy for a few hours, and was given a dummy for the first time in a bid to shut me up! There was also a surprise visit from Granny!

I have been good for Mummy this afternoon and I watched the football with Daddy this evening. I wore my white England T-shirt (the one that let me down in the last minute of the France game). Fortunately it worked this time and England beat Croatia 4-2.

They play the host nation, Portugal, in the next game. Daddy gave me a bath to celebrate.

Daddy also attempted to weigh me by weighing himself, and then weighing himself with me in his arms. I'm somewhere around 10 lbs.

Fathers Day

It's Fathers Day and so as a special treat, I was sick on Daddy.

But not just once. Not even twice. And no, not three times. Not four times, either. But five times. Yes, FIVE. It is Fathers Day after all.

I spoilt Daddy rotten and bought him lots of presents - some chocolates to share with Mummy, a cushion, and a football game and football to play with me.

I bought some razor blades for Grandad, as that's what Daddy always used to get for his Grandad when he was little like me.

Grandma Sheila and Uncle Paddy have been very busy finishing everything at Mummy and Daddy's old house, ready to rent it out. Mummy, Daddy and I visited Granny and Grandad for Sunday lunch, and then visited Grandma Sheila and Uncle Paddy at the caravan afterwards.

Big baby

I slept in four beds this morning. First in my cot, then in Mummy and Daddy's bed, then I paid Grandma a visit, and later Uncle Paddy.

Uncle Paddy is sleeping in my bedroom. The window cleaner visited this morning and Uncle Paddy slept through it all - he must have thought Mummy had given birth to a very large baby!

Everyone's been very busy today but I've spent quite a bit of time resting.

JKJ

Granny visited and helped Mummy bath me this morning. I peed on her blouse. Here's the door to my bathroom, with my initials on it, which were a present from Derek and Sheila.

I am starting to occupy myself more and more on my gym mat, and possibly smiling from time to time (although the jury is still out on that one).

Grandma Sheila, Uncle Paddy and Sam the dog have just arrived.

England vs. Switzerland

I've been busy watching Ascot on TV this afternoon. It's nice and colourful, even if some of the hats do look pretty ridiculous.

The main sporting event of the day has been England vs. Switzerland in Euro 2004, a game England really needed to win. I tried my other lucky England T-shirt, and this one worked a little better. England won 3-0 thanks to another good game from Wayne Rooney.

I watched the game with Luke and Gordon.

France and Croatia drew 2-2 so now England only need to draw against Croatia in their final group match in order to progress to the next round.

After the match, I had a bit of a tussle with Luke.

And then elbowed Gordon in the face for good measure.

Preston

I've been to Preston today, and met up with Mummy's friend, June. She made a really good fuss of me.

Tuesday, June 15, 2004

Thank you!

Mummy was a little concerned about me this morning as I hadn't filled my nappy for quite a while. I've put that right by making up for lost time throughout the day.

I'm starting to get used to baths a little more now. In fact, nowadays I've started crying when I'm taken out of the bath.

It's also been time to take all my wonderful cards down now that I'm over a month old. Thank you very much everyone for all my wonderful cards (I've received nearly one hundred!) and presents.

One month old again

I'm a calendar month old today!

Went shopping with Mummy this morning. That was a bit boring. Mummy did put some money in my bank account, though, so the outing wasn't all bad.

Granny looked after me for a bit in the afternoon to let Mummy get on with a few things. I've been quite a good boy today.

France vs. England

Grandma Sheila and Uncle Paddy left this morning as Uncle Paddy has to go back to work. I've been to see Granny and Grandad with Mummy. They've been in Rome so I've not seen them for a few days. I vomited all over Granny.

England were playing the favourites, France, in Euro 2004 today. I put on my lucky T-shirt and watched the game with Daddy.

The T-shirt was good for 90 minutes. England were winning 1-0 until Zinedine Zidane scored twice in injury time. Like David Beckham who missed a penalty, I'm totally distraught now.

We desparately need to beat Switzerland on Thursday now.

Euro 2004

Euro 2004 kicked off today!

Greece beat the hosts Portugal 2-1 in the opening game. Daddy got an account at BetFair.com and both Mummy and Daddy won money on that particular game.

They're up £11.77 overall, so I think that means I can afford to fill my nappy a little more often.

Mummy has been looking after me today and could have sworn that I said 'hello' to her. Daddy has been spraying the top lawn outside with weed killer. Grandma Sheila and Uncle Paddy have been busy working at Mummy and Daddy's old house.

One month old

I'm one lunar month old today!!!

I've been to the supermarket with Mummy. I got lots of attention there again. And I bought something for Daddy when we were there. He's got to share it with Mummy, though.

And Daddy has also bought me a present!

Euro 2004 begins this weekend and we're going to be rooting for England.

Grandma Sheila and Uncle Paddy have arrived for the weekend. I vomited on Uncle Paddy within seconds of being handed to him. They think I've grown and that my hair's grown.

Cry baby

I had a lie in this morning.

Mummy thought she saw me shed my first tear today!

First born

I went to Wilf's café (Staveley) for lunch with Mummy today, and met up with Gordon and Luke. It was our first time and we thought it was pretty good.

Not much else has happened today. Daddy's back a little later than normal because he plays football after work on a Wednesday.

Here I am in my 'first born' gear which I was given by Gordon's Mummy.

I watched Big Brother 5 with Daddy for a bit, but Mummy and I are both very tired.

Bank interest

Mummy was busy mowing the grass this morning. It was a bit tricky for her because she could only do a bit, stop to check on me... do a little bit more, stop to check on me again... and so on.

Afterwards we met up with Daddy and went to open a bank account for me. They made a real fuss of me in the bank. Next, it was off to Boots but Mummy was a little embarrassed at the scene I made in there, so we soon left.

Here I am relaxing in the evening, on the gym which I was kindly given on Sunday.

Messy Daddy!

I went to the supermarket with Mummy today. Lots of strangers made a fuss of me, and helped Mummy out by doing things like returning her trolley for her after she'd finished.

Daddy spilt his dinner down me this evening. Does he not realise that I'm more than capable of making a mess on my own?

Sunday lunch

A teacher from Mummy's school called in with a maternity present from the school this morning... a Winnie the Pooh gym... wow!!

We went to Granny and Grandad's for Sunday lunch today. There was me, Mummy, Daddy, Granny, Grandad, Uncle Mark and Auntie Jaymie. Roast beef was on offer but I just stuck to my usual diet of milk.

Here's a photo of me and all the other Johnson boys.

Uncle Mark and Auntie Jaymie

Uncle Mark and Auntie Jaymie arrived this afternoon! They seem to like me.

Long spin

I needed not just one bath this morning before getting dressed, but three, because I kept vomiting, peeing, etc.

Not much has happened today but I did spend a significant portion of the afternoon with our Hotpoint washing machine once more. It keeps me entertained, you see.

I'm very excited because I'm meeting Uncle Mark and Auntie Jaymie for the first time tomorrow.

Biscuit delivery

Granny and Grandad visited me again this morning!

In the afternoon, I went to Helme Chase with Mummy today to drop off a box of biscuits for the midwives there.

In the evening, Mummy and Daddy were visited by their friends Paul and Charlotte. I sat on Charlotte's lap for a bit and was behaved quite well throughout.

It's been a pretty relaxing day all told.

It's official

It was a slightly interrupted night but not too bad. I joined Mummy and Daddy in bed in the morning. Here I am snoozing on top of Daddy.

Once Daddy got up for work, Mummy and I had the bed to ourselves.

I am now officially James Kenneth Johnson (the baby formerly known by the same name) as I went to register my birth with Mummy and Daddy this morning.

When I got home, the health visitor arrived. I've been weighed and have put on 3 ounces since birth.

Mummy has discovered that I am easily entertained by the washing machine. If she places me in my chair with a prime view, I'll happily watch and listen as all my washing spins around.

It's been yet another busy day.

Unsettled in Settle

I've just got my website stats through and there were 616 visitors to my blog last month. Given that I only started it midway through the month, and given that I've not met anything like that number of people yet, I don't think that's too bad. Thank you everyone for visiting!

Today I went to Settle (after a flying visit from Granny and Grandad). Mummy and I met up with Mandy, Eliza and Freddie. With three of us under the age of 2, we emptied the cafe pretty quickly. I played up a bit so we didn't stop for long, and went back home, where I remained unsettled until bedtime.

When bedtime comes along, I much prefer Mummy and Daddy's bed to my cot.
